A major focus of our research is to develop and characterize animal models for the study of human neuropsychiatric diseases. We have generated a line of transgenic mice that exhibit behavioral endophenotypes corresponding to the core symptoms of schizophrenia. Using a combination of electrophysiological, biochemical and imaging approaches, we also identified schizophrenia-related synaptic deficits in the brain of our mouse model. Currently, we are using this and other mouse models to investigate the neurobiology of schizophrenia at levels of molecules, synapses and neural circuits.
