Current Research
Dr. Richard Bertram is a professor in the Department of Mathematics, and faculty member of the Programs in Molecular Biophysics and Neuroscience. He also serves as the director of the Biomathematics Program. He earned his PhD in Applied Mathematics from FSU and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Mathematical Research Branch at the National Institutes of Health. He then joined Pennsylvania State University as an Assistant Professor before returning to FSU in 1999. His lab uses mathematical and computational approaches to study neural systems and the mechanisms of hormone secretion. In particular, his lab works with experimental collaborators on studies of the gustatory system, the olfactory system, pancreatic islets of Langerhans, and endocrine pituitary cells.
