I am interested in dissecting the circuitry contributing to learned avoidance behaviors. Currently, I am using the passive avoidance memory paradigm to understand the role of the A2 noradrenergic neuron population in the caudal nucleus of the solitary tract (cNTS) in the consolidation and expression of these avoidance behaviors. Through my research, I would like to provide insight into the neural mechanisms behind maladaptive/excessive avoidance behaviors that characterizes stress-related mental health disorders, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and anxiety.
